Implemented by our potato programme to diversify livelihood options for farmers in highland areas this incredibly versatile crop is now being grown by 5,000 families! The humble spud is useful for nutrition, as well as income generation and with high productivity on a small amount of land, these very aPEELing vegetables are truly improving the lives of many.

Mehamed Ahimed Ali (15) shows some of the potatoes from his family's successful harvest thanks to Concern. The Potato programme was implemented to diversify livelihood options of farmers in the highland area. It first started in 2007 with 16 farmers and selected to demonstrate the success of growing potato. Now all households are using it as one of their crops as it is useful for nutrition as well as income generation, household consumption, and seed purposes.
